What services are provided?
We provide legal and social work services, public legal education, law reform, research, and
community development services.
How do I apply?
Clients may apply directly or are referred by a variety of sources, including community organizations,
the private bar, law enforcement, legal clinics, family and friends. Walk-ins are accepted; however,
we prefer that people call in advance for an appointment.
What are the qualifications for service?
Persons who cannot afford a lawyer and are unable to obtain a Legal Aid Certificate qualify for legal
assistance. Social work services are available for individuals and families experiencing social or
emotional problems.
What areas of Law and Social Work are covered?
Ontario Works, Ontario disability benefits, Old Age Security, employment insurance, tenant
protection, criminal injuries compensation, advocacy, family and individual counselling, crisis
intervention, referral, law reform, public legal education, research and community development.
What areas of Law are not covered?
Family, criminal, personal injury, real estate, Highway Traffic Act, Workplace Safety Insurance Board
matters, Canada Pension, Employment Standards, Employment Insurance, consumer debt,
immigration.
What is the cost of service and other information?
There is no fee for service. LAW is a project of the University of Windsor, Faculty of Law and is
funded by Legal Aid Ontario. Law and Social Work students handle casework under the supervision
of lawyers and social workers
